School Clinics

Congratulations to Dennis Holman, our former President who has secured a $20000 City of Joondalup grant to assist in running Modcrosse Clinics in Joondalup schools during 2016. Dennis put a fair bit of time and effort into obtaining the grant, and now needs the assistance of people in the club to work as Development Officers. The grant allows for the payment of DOs so if you are able to help with a few hours to work with kids in schools the long term benefits for our club and lacrosse in general will be appreciable. Please contact Dennis Holman for further details.

Warriors look to Canada in 2016

Wanneroo Lacrosse Club (Wanneroo Warriors) have 12 representatives in the training squad for the Australian Under 19s Men’s Lacrosse Team which will contest the 2016 World Championships to be held in Canada.  Wanneroo Lacrosse Club’s Head Coach, Konrad Frankee, has been appointed as one of three WA-based coaches for the squad.

Australia has done well in the past, winning silver and bronze medals.  In the last tournament held in Finland in 2012, Australia achieved a creditable 5th after being handed a tough draw.  The squad is starting early this time around and is aiming to be back on the podium in 2016.

The 100-plus Australia-wide squad will be engaged in rigorous state-based training in Western Australia, South Australia and Victoria during 2014.  The complete squad will then come together for several training camps to be held in each state during 2015, with the final team of 23 players due for selection in early 2016.  Opportunities for travel to play in US college tournaments may arise as the training group prepares for international competition.

Wanneroo Head Coach Frankee said “A number of these Wanneroo players were part of the WA Under 15s Premiership team in 2013 and then went on to win the Australian Under 15s Championship as part of the Northern Thunder Lacrosse Team and have been selected in the WA U18s team to contest the Australian U18s championships in Bendigo next month.  We have high expectations that Wanneroo Lacrosse Club will be well-represented in the final Australian team when its selected in 2016.  It will take a lot of hard work and dedication, but these guys are ready to take the opportunity to represent their country, and will make the club, WA and Australia, proud both on and off the field.”

Based at Penistone Reserve in Greenwood since 1977, Wanneroo Lacrosse Club has been represented in past international tournaments, and will continue to do so into the future. “Lacrosse is an exciting sport, and Wanneroo provides great opportunities for young men and women to not only learn the basics of the game, but to also learn life skills which will stand them in good stead in the wider community”, Frankee said.

Proudly supported by the City of Joondalup, Wanneroo Lacrosse Club has a bright future with new lights being installed at Penistone allowing several night games to be held during the coming season.  Wanneroo is the fastest growing Lacrosse club in WA, with opportunities for all ages.  Boys and girls from as young as 5 can play a non-contact modified version of lacrosse, while players from 11 and up can play Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse, with great opportunities to represent WA and even Australia.  For more information on Wanneroo Lacrosse Club, visit www.wanneroolacrosse.com or email secretary@wanneroolacrosse.com.
